Sleep Management in Kettering, Northampton, UKIf you have a patient that complains of trouble sleeping, keeping their partner awake at night through snoring, then we here at Ideal Profile dental laboratory may well have the answer for you. We cannot guarantee to cure snoring or save marriages, but we can certainly try to help and alleviate some of the causes of this problem. We are able to construct Mandibular Advancement Devices to help keep the lower jaw in a forward position while the patient sleeps. In doing so it is hoped that this opens their airway and allows a quieter and more comfortable ease of breathing. The type of appliance we construct allows for easy and simple adjustment, so if the lower jaw needs more advancing at anytime in the future, this can be done in a matter of minutes with minimal fuss and distress to the patient. It has a soft layer encompassing the patient’s natural dentit ion; this is then encased in a harder outer shell to allow for stability and rigidity. Protrusion/advancement is by way of adjustable arms on the buccal aspects of the appliance. Whilst these appliance work for a lot of people, we cannot guarantee that they will have any effect, and if they do not, then the patient may well have to be referred to the ENT department at the nearest hospital or to a proper sleep study centre to have the disorder assessed in detail. It is possible that the patient could have Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). What causes snoring? When your throat muscles relax when you are sleeping, they are less effective in holding your breathing passages open. The soft sides of of the airway tend to close in, and the air has to move faster through a smaller space. This causes vibrations of the soft tissues which generate the noise of snoring.
